47. On selfie sticks

In South Korea, I found youngsters taking to selfies in a big way. Selfie stick with the camera perched on top is an item that could be seen everywhere. I don't know why our youngsters are so late in catching up. It is a good sight to see people clicking selfies with the help of a long stick. It makes them look professional and introduces some seriousness into the business of taking selfies. The stick provides the depth and helps accommodate a big group into a single frame.

I don't know if it is a little inconvenient to carry a selfie stick around, but with foldable sticks and light material, this should not be much of a problem. I am sure, very soon, in our country too, we will see use of selfie sticks in a big way. Hopefully, the sticks can be put to good alternative use by girls who often need something like this to keep trouble-makers away.

We are a country known for innovations and jugaad. Who knows, our farmers may find sturdy selfie sticks quite handy in driving away stray animals from fields and our security guards on their rounds of colonies. If this happens, selfie sticks may be instrumental in promoting use of cameras in the country. I hope, companies like Canon, Nikon and Sony are listening.
