Situated in Uttarakhand near Haridwar and Rishikesh, Rajaji National Park is a beautiful weekend destination from Delhi and other nearby places.Spread over an area of about 820 Sq. kilometres, the Park falls in three districts of Uttarakhand - Pauri Garwal, Dehradun and Saharanpur. It is situated along the foothills of the Himalayas and covers both the banks of the river Ganges. The Park is dissected by many small streams which descend from the main ridge carrying water and become broad pebble/boulder- filled streams in the plains. These streams remain dry for most of the year but become raging torrents during the monsoon. The area is covered with diverse forest types and is dominated by lofty strands of sal in many parts. Rajaji is home to animals like tigers, panthers, wild boars, elephants, deer and has about 400 bird species. It is open to visitors from mid-November to mid-June.
